# The secret behind our wines: How the volcanic soils of the Burda Hills shape their unique character

 ## Where the Earth's history meets the vineyard

Standing among the vineyards of the Burda Hills, you'll find yourself surrounded by a landscape shaped by the Danube over thousands of years. The river winds through rolling hills, rocky cliffs rise above the water, and autumn mornings bring a blanket of mist across the valley. It is here, on the soils of an ancient volcano, that the wines of Világi Winery are born.

The vineyards surrounding Chľaba in southern Slovakia benefit from volcanic subsoil that helps preserve freshness and vibrant acidity. Beneath the vines lies mainly andesite, a volcanic rock that forms one of the defining characteristics of this region's unique terroir.

## The Valley of Three Rivers creates its own microclimate

Although this is the warmest wine-growing region in Slovakia, enjoying one of the country's highest numbers of sunny days, the Danube, Hron and Ipeľ rivers prevent the landscape from becoming overly dry. Together they regulate temperatures and minimise extreme weather fluctuations.

The rivers also maintain consistent humidity levels throughout the growing season. During autumn, morning mists regularly settle across the valley before disappearing with the first rays of sunlight—a signature feature of the Valley of Three Rivers. Combined with volcanic soils and ideal vineyard locations, this unique microclimate creates a terroir that is reflected in every vintage.
