During the Middle Ages, viticulture flourished here, and the local vineyards supplied wine to the Archdiocese of Esztergom. For centuries, this remarkable tradition was preserved in unique wine cellars carved into volcanic tuff more than 300 years ago. Honouring this rich heritage, we continued its legacy in 2015. Participating in ProWein opened the door to new partnerships and export opportunities. Today, our wines are available in six countries, proving that our terroir, our wines and our philosophy have the potential to succeed around the world. ## Chľaba Chľaba is a peaceful village on the banks of the Danube, where the river begins its iconic bend and the energy of the water meets the majestic Burda and Zebegény Hills. Shaped by both nature and history, this unique landscape is home to more than 300-year-old wine cellars and a deeply rooted winemaking tradition. This remarkable terroir offers everything needed to produce wines with a truly distinctive character, shaped by sunshine, flowing water and the unique natural conditions of the region. A Mediterranean-like microclimate, enhanced by sunlight reflected from the Danube and sheltered hillsides, provides ideal conditions for long, slow and even grape ripening. The proximity of the river and the sunlight reflected from its surface create an almost Mediterranean microclimate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly while developing exceptional aromatic complexity. Wines from this vineyard are characterised by remarkable concentration, a rich structure and expressive fruit flavours, complemented by elegance and outstanding balance. ### Helemba Vineyard ![](https://vilagiwinery.sk//uploads/images/icon/leaf_2026-03-25-123025_tqiy.svg)Located near the Ipeľ River, this south-east facing terraced vineyard lies at an altitude of 139–151 metres above sea level. The cooler microclimate, constant airflow and higher humidity create ideal conditions for slower ripening and the natural development of noble botrytis. The wines produced here are celebrated for their freshness, elegance and complex aromatic profile. These vineyards also provide outstanding grapes for late-harvest and naturally sweet wines. ## Our grape varieties The volcanic soils of the valley of 3 rivers provide the ideal environment for both traditional Carpathian grape varieties and internationally renowned cultivars. Our vineyards are home to Grüner Veltliner, Irsai Olivér, Yellow Muscat, Cserszegi Fűszeres, Blaufränkisch, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Merlot. ![](https://vilagiwinery.sk//uploads/images/_transforms/_w640/40A4258-1.jpg) ## Winemaking Our wines are crafted by combining time-honoured winemaking traditions with the latest technologies. It is no coincidence that our wines are often described as being born from a volcano. The volcanic andesite soils, enriched by Miocene sediments, give our wines their distinctive minerality—one of the defining characteristics of the valley of 3 rivers. Every bottle is created with meticulous attention to detail. Our vineyards are cultivated with minimal intervention and great respect for nature, allowing every wine to express both its grape variety and its place of origin. Grapes are harvested exclusively at optimal ripeness and carefully hand-picked to preserve their full aromatic potential. Our portfolio includes the **Modern Balance** collection, produced using modern reductive winemaking techniques that preserve freshness and fruit character, as well as the exclusive **Terroir Selection** range, matured in carefully selected oak barrels of various sizes.
